journalist in France, he was active in the
Resistance during World War II. His novels,
which owe much to existentialism, include
L'Etranger/The Outsider 1942, La Peste/The
Plague 1948, and L'Homme Revolte/The Rebel
1952. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for
Literature 1957.
